The Mount Carmel Freedom House

Mount Carmel's Freedom House exists to house refugees on a semi-permanent basis as they transition into a new life in America

Current volunteer opportunities below:

HOUSE PREP TEAM:

Clean the house during transitions; do laundry; stock the home with hygiene and cleaning supplies.

GROCERY TEAM:

The current family is receiving food assistance and can purchase their own grocery items.  They now have their own transportation and don't need drivers.

​

Select items are not covered through food assistance, such as paper towels, toilet paper, napkins; donations can be placed in the bin in the Fellowship Hall; the church has Food Lion gift cards if you'd like to donate but don't have the funds to do so.

ESL TEAM:

Those with backgrounds in teaching English as a second language or those who would like to serve working with the family to reinforce lessons may join.

HOSPITALITY TEAM:

Meet the family as they arrive; bring fresh flowers prior to arrival; show the family how to use appliances, shower, etc.; see if the family needs clothes.

​

Drop in to check on and visit with family from time to time.

​

MAINTENANCE TEAM:

Help with maintenance of the Freedom House

 

Current needs:

  • Door in master bedroom sticks

  • Landscaping around home

  • Roof needs replacing/repair

  • Shoe molding needed in kitchen

The family needs to be driven to and from doctors appointments.

REQUIREMENTS FOR HOSPITALITY & ESL TEAMS
*There are requirements for those who volunteer on teams that work directly with the family*
*Only a limited number of people can serve on the Hospitality Team at one time so as not to overwhelm the family*
*Vaccination is required*

  1. Complete a background check & Watch a child protection training video/pass a quiz HERE

  2. Attend a cross-cultural ministry education class
